ABOUT HCG

These are the expectations of all employees and anyone we work with long term, does this describe you?
Contact us if it does! We’d love to meet you!
  • THE ABILITY TO LEARN – We appreciate any and all education. We value intelligence over degrees and the ability to garner problem solving skills.
  • DO THE RIGHT THING – If you aren’t a straight shooter don’t waste our time. Some of us have a checkered past. Some of us must learn the hard way. That’s okay. Each day is a new day as long as the sun keeps rising. We reserve the right to address any issues on a case-by-case basis.
  • WORK YOUR BUTT OFF – There is nothing easy about the construction industry and our line of business is even harder because we are an old-school general contractor that actually owns tools and uses them on a daily basis.
  • BE A DECENT HUMAN BEING – Every year we try hard to give our employees off Good Friday. Yes, we are old school. We have conservative values. Basically, if you wouldn’t do it to your mother, don’t do it to anyone else.
  • UNDERSTAND HOW TO BUILD A BUILDING – If there are parts you don’t quite have mastered, we will work with and teach you.
  • Ability to bring people together as a unit and desire to be part of a team.
  • Ability to sit in duck pit and not be a complete jerk. Our clients are our friends, and our friends are family. We duck hunt. We are a company that believes in working hard and playing hard.
  • Get over being butt hurt. Nearly everyone in construction has very strong personalities (Big egos). You must have the ability to set your ego aside and do what is best for the team.
  • Competitive base salary – We understand that good people get paid extremely well. Candidates also must understand that we are not a non-profit company.  Duck hunting gets expensive.  We give raises based on the ability to take on more responsibility and do more functions.  It’s the proverbial, bigger dozers cost more money.  We aren’t going to pay a recent college graduate 80K, unless they can take a set of plans, build, and then, after seeing that firsthand, we will pay more.
  • Company vehicle or allowance for certain positions (dependent on position needs)
  • 401K – 5% employee contribution & 4% company contribution after 1 year of employment
  • Generous bonus for each employee each year – The bonus structure is simple.  We take a certain percentage of company profit and divide it among our team.  The more you do, the more you get.  Bonuses can be very lucrative.
  • Duck hunting. When you are a proven performer, you get trips to Arkansas to duck hunt. It’s a great time to unwind, eat way too much, and have fun.
  • Competitive Pay
  • Company-contributed comprehensive medical, dental and vision benefits available with various options to meet your family’s needs
  • Company-paid life insurance for all employees
  • 2 weeks PTO/Sick Days/year
  • Opportunities for professional development and continuing education
  • 401K enrollment after 1 year of employment
  • Recognized Holidays
  • Bonuses – Based upon individual performance and performance of company over the previous calendar year
  • Duck Hunting – When you are a proven performer, you get trips to Arkansas to duck hunt. It’s a great time to unwind, eat way too much and have fun.

JOB Descriptions

We are currently looking for Carpenters, Assistant Superintendents and Superintendents! Please see below for job descriptions and basic qualifications for all positions.

Coming soon.

  • You are the tip of the spear. You must be able to lead our team and subcontractors.  Everyone has their own leadership style. Your style must be effective.  If it is yelling, screaming, cussing, spitting, please do not apply. There is a time for this, but by that time that employee or subcontractor will have been removed from our project. We need a steady hand on the tiller.
  • You and the Project Manager/Estimator will begin developing the project work plan while the project is being estimated. Once we get to the field, you will be expected to fine tune said work plan. You must have the ability to anticipate needs and have a smooth project, free of delays caused by poor planning.
  • Our company self performs a wide range of different scopes of work. We do not expect you to know everything, but you must have a general knowledge of how a building goes together.
  • Build upon existing relationships with owners and subcontractors and help build new relationships. You will see the same subcontractors on multiple jobs. We have built a team of subcontractors that have worked well for many years. We all work together as a team. We all make money together, but we don’t screw each other over; we look out for each other, and yes, we duck hunt together.
  • You are not being hired for your back but rather for your brain. Though all of us put on a nail bag and swing a hammer from time to time. A big piece of your role is to help develop the next generation of Superintendents. We spend a lot of time training our people.
  • Manage a team of workers, including work schedules, project progress and resource allocation. You must be able to lead your team in a positive manner. Sometimes leadership is quiet, sometimes it’s loud, all the time it provides an example of how to get things done. The ability to deescalate situations is also a HUGE plus, sometimes people can be hot-headed in construction and you may need to defuse situations with a cool head and even temper.
  • Collaborate with clients, our Project Manager/Estimator, and our Project Executive/Engineer to determine budget and timeline. You must be able to switch between client mode and getting your team to move as one. We are a small team but with focus and being well organized, we are faster than the large crews.
  • Coordinate materials and equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers. Our Project Manager/Estimator will price out a great deal of the materials needed for a job, but you will be expected to notify him when they need to be ordered/arrive.
  • We have a moral obligation to provide a safe working environment. We spend a lot of time, effort, and money to keep everyone safe. “Just get up there and do it” doesn’t work here.  Ensure that your crew and all other trades on all construction sites are working within safety compliance and OSHA standards.
  • Create schedules for workers and subcontractors. You will be expected to create a workplan before anyone steps onto a jobsite to begin work. We do not want to waste our time nor the clients by figuring it out as we go. We must be efficient and work smarter, not harder.
  • Hire additional subcontractors and crew members and assign work accordingly. As you come to know your team, you will be the best judge of who will work well with others and what skill sets might be helpful to improve your crew’s productivity and outcomes.
  • Maintain a daily log for the job site’s operations, reporting to Management as necessary. This is expected to be completed at the end of each day so that payroll can go off without a hitch.
  • Make changes in the operation as necessary to best meet construction deadlines.
  • Not afraid to get dirty. This is not a suit and tie office. When we get a call at 2:00 am and must respond to a structural collapse, you will be expected to show up with a tool bag and have some knowledge of how to use them. As the Marines say, “Every marine is a rifleman,” we believe every person is a carpenter, no matter your title.
  • Desire to duck hunt. Yes, you read that correctly. Duck hunting. We see ourselves as a duck hunting club with a construction problem. Duck hunting trips are earned, not given.
  • Experience on various types of construction projects in a Superintendent role.
  • Must be construction-document and drawing literate with knowledge of all phases of construction.
